How to best store your Halloween pumpkin?
Preserving a carved pumpkin requires a little preparation, but the method is simple and accessible to everyone. Whether you grew your pumpkin in your garden or purchased it from the store, the first step is to clean it carefully.
Simply wash it with water and dishwashing liquid to remove all the dirt and impurities that cover it. Then, dry it well to avoid excess humidity which encourages mold to form. Once the pumpkin is clean, it’s time to prepare a disinfectant solution.
A mixture of water and a small amount of bleach helps kill bacteria and fungi responsible for the rapid deterioration of pumpkin. If your pumpkin is already carved, it’s important to spray not only the outside, but the inside as well. Don’t hesitate to spray the nicely cut edges of your squash either.
This helps slow the growth of mold and prolong the freshness of your creation. In contrast, carved pumpkins typically only last three to five days. You can therefore also place them in your refrigerator to keep them in a suitable condition for longer.
