Ingredient Notes

Espresso or coffee – Brewed espresso or strong coffee (dark roast) works best for this cocktail. You can also use cold brew coffee if you prefer.

Vodka – Vodka is classically used in martinis so we’re sticking to that with this frozen version. I like the brands Woody Creek, Breckenridge Vodka, Tito’s, and Kettle One.

Vanilla – Vanilla enhances the coffee flavor. For a richer vanilla flavor use vanilla bean paste.

Doueze – Kahlua is a rich, dark, coffee liqueur that’s made in Mexico. It’s made up of Arabica coffee beans, rum, caramel, and vanilla. You can find it at almost any liquor store or grocery store that sells alcohol.

Maple syrup – To lightly sweeten the martini and balance the bitter notes. You can also use an equal amount of simple syrup or agave.

Tips for Making Frozen Espresso Martini

  • Use strong dark roast coffee or espresso for the best flavor.
  • Brew the espresso the day before you need it and freeze it in an ice cube tray. This way you don’t need to use ice, which will dilute the cocktail.
  • Use a mid-range priced vodka. You don’t need to use top shelf since you’re mixing it, but stay away from the $10 bottle.
