How much will you pay for your Christmas shopping this year?
Like every year, the media France Info carries out a survey to determine the average price of Christmas shopping for a household. This year, the price of the France Info Christmas shopping basket does not increase compared to last year. In fact, it is even slightly cheaper. Count a drop of 1.1%.
If we take a little step back, the average Christmas shopping basket took 12% increase over the last three years. A data very close to that of cumulative inflation which has affected the world of food in general.
The price of foodstuffs found in stores has not really increased in 2025. Most food prices have stagnated or even fallen for certain products. However, a few very specific products have seen a very significant increase.
And this is in fact what literally weighs down the price of the average Christmas basket. According to France Infothese are even the “little Christmas pleasures” which considerably increase the price of the Christmas meal. On the front line? Chocolate, with an increase of 55%, versus 2024.
We are also thinking of other foods which have seen their prices increase at the end of the year. Like the Saint-Jacques which display more than 10% increase when going to checkout. But also with the famous hazelnut apples, which are generally served as an accompaniment to Christmas or New Year’s Eve meals, and which show an increase of 18% compared to 2024.
However, the price of certain foodstuffs has not changed or has fallen
On the other hand, and as we have already mentioned, the price of many foods is falling. We obviously think of foie gras, which displays a price down 9% compared to last year. As for the turkey, the most emblematic main course of Christmas, its price has not changed since 2023.
Finally, the prize for consumption goes to the Yule log, with a price drop equivalent to a quarter compared to 2024 prices. A good reason to treat yourself at the end of the year!
